I spent the better part of five hours atop 30 Rockefeller Center to get the right light known as the blue hour. This is the period just before twilight in the evening when the sun has set just below the horizon and causes the indirect sun to take on a blue hue.

BETHESDA FOUNTAIN

Central Park, NY

I was walking though Central Park in the heard of New York City and happened across this under pass fully illuminated early in the morning. Off in the distance you can see the Angel of the Waters welcoming all who visit.

BUSY CITY

Manhattan, NY

There is nothing like immersing yourself in your surroundings. That was my intention here, walk the streets of Manhattan and just observe. Watch the city do its thing. There is so much going on in this single frame. I still get caught looking all over this shot noticing more things lost to the naked eye. I don’t know what is more remarkable, the scene before me or the fact that I didn’t get hit standing in the middle of the street.

DOWN UNDER

Brooklyn, NY

Known to the locals as DUMBO or Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass, this small neighborhood of Brooklyn provides a unique view into Manhattan as the Manhattan bridge perfectly frames the Empires State Building in the distant horizon.

ENDURANCE

Brooklyn Bridge, NY

The Brooklyn Bridge has earned its place in the landscape of the Empire State. It has withstood more than the test of time. This view, looking up up at the second tower, was intended to show the size and enduring strength of the bridge. Yet, after some time I noticed the new World Trace Center under its arch in the lower left. I saw this and thought this symbolic of our own enduring strength to overcome.

LEAVING

Brooklyn Bridge, NY

This is one of my favorite shots of the New York skyline as seen from the Brooklyn Bridge. Angela and I had spent the day shooting across the water and decided to walk back to the city over the bridge. She found a friend in one of the beat cops patrolling the bridge. I was easily distracted in the sights so I leaned over the edge and rested on the cross beam and let the city to the rest.

LET'S GO

E Train, New York, NY

It's not often you find a whole subway car to yourself in New York City. Yet, after a long night shooting the city life it was time to go home. I was about to leave the station when I noticed the absence of everything. Luckily I still had the camera at the ready for one last shot.

MONOLITHIC

Brooklyn Bridge, NY

New York is one of the most popular locations in the world, while one of its most iconic locations is the Brooklyn Bridge. The bridge has stood the test of time. Its structure provides a functional transportation aspect but has retained its timeless beauty. I found myself mesmerized by the geometric shapes and angles forcing the eye to its peak. I wanted to show those angles in more prominence and the blackness of night seemed best to do just that.

MORNING SOLITUDE

New York, NY

New York City is one of my favorite locations for photography. I am in continual amazement on the variety of urban locations that capture my attention. Yet, the solitude that I found in Central Park this early foggy morning helped me to slow down and enjoy the peace and serenity in the middle of the most popular cities in the world.

PELETON

New York, NY

You never know what to expect in New York City. Just walking though Central Park I found a full scale bike race flying through the park. For this image I thought to just pan with the group with a longer shutter speed to blend the colors just enough to achieve this effect.

URSA MAJOR OVER NEW YORK

New York, NY

This shot had a little surprise when I got back to the digital dark room. The star constellation Ursa Major felt a little photogenic that night. I wasn't able to notice the stars while shooting this scene but was pleasently surprised during development.

WALK ON BROOKLYN

Brooklyn Bridge, NY

I spent a long day scouting different angles to shoot the Brooklyn Bridge but it wasn't until I started walking back to the city that I looked up and was in awe. The age of the bridge adds to its character but doesn't help for long shutter speeds. I could feel the vibration and sway in the walkway as cars sped by below. Dodging runners and bikes, I set up the camera, pointed up and hoped for less traffic.
