I could spend hours capturing the beauty within the Antelope Canyons. In fact, I did spend a couple hours with my Navajo guide to find just the right light ... and I may have caught a dancing spirit. A half second shutter was all that I needed to get the effect of a ghostly apparition as the sand and dust fell in the sunlight piercing the canyon walls.

I’ve always been amazed at the power and near determination of nature. The Grand Canyon is an amazing feat of such power. Yet, what really caught me was how life continues to thrive – and do so for so long. At the North Rim of the Grand Canyon perched atop the cliff was this aged tree without a trace of soil to be found and yet it found the will and determination to grow regardless of the situation.

We are truly the benefactors of the work time and erosion have upon the slot canyons in the Navajo Reservation known as The Antelope Canyon. The sun slowly changed the mood of this scene by enhancing the contrast of the contours within the sandstone. I was fortunate to see such a spectacle as these canyons are famous not only for their beauty but also the flash floods that take part in reshaping the rock formations over the generations.

My interest in photography started many years ago as a child. I loved the ability to seize a moment in time, forever. I once borrowed my father's old Pentax SLR and bought a roll of monochrome film and shot anything I could find. I found the subjects’ true depth and definition in the old standard, black and white. Spending time at the horse races I thought I would reminisce on those ideas and capture the pure strength of an athlete.

I spent Memorial Day morning shooting the local golf courses at Lansdowne Resort. It took a while but I found some patriotic spirit on the 18th hole.

At high noon one has the chance to witness the spectacle of light pierce through the rock and illuminate the true colors throughout the area. It was at this time that I had the chance to take in all the vibrant colors on display as the light brought them to life.
BEAR'S DEN

Hiking up the hill side of Bears Den proves rewarding when reaching the summit. The kids always love playing in the large cracks of the granite rocks. I love the view.
PARC SOLEIL

Florida is one of my favorite venues for photography. The weather can change at an instant and his night was no different. Storms were predicted within the hour and my chance to shoot this spot was dwindling. I could feel the air cool quickly as the wind picked up from behind. I looked around for the brewing storm and saw the sun just begin to set and paint the sky one last time for the day. Just in time before the sun gave way to the storm.

Time seems to cease when wandering these caves and yet I cannot forget that it is time that has sculpted such beautiful formations. Known to frequently flood these caverns show the awesome effect water has with the ever changing power of erosion.

As an avid cyclist I often frequent the Washington & Old Dominion bike trail (W&OD). This spot is one of my favorite locations all along the 45-mile stretch. The tree canopy is reminiscent of an old church cathedral.

This is one of my favorite spots to view the Colorado River. Another of nature’s demonstration of the powerful effect water has on the most formidable terrains. I spent many days and nights to witness the various scenes come about as the sunlight paints new colors throughout the day. No other time than first sun rise brought out the best colors across the landscape and I was more than happy to get up early to take it in.

THE NARROWS

It's easy to get lost in the natural beauty of Zion Canyon in southwestern Utah. There are miles of hiking trails to take in the scenery but my goal was up in the Narrows by the Temple of Sinawava that can only be reached by wading in waist deep creeks for what felt like miles. The rushing cool river requires my immediate attention so as not to lose my footing along the trek. It was not until this oasis amongst the chasm that I slowed long enough to capture the pure beauty nature has created over the milenia.

Bryce Canyon, UT
Bryce Canyon, well known for crimson-colored hoodoos, is truly a spectacle to see. I was worried as I ventured up the mountain, there there was a vast wild fire miles up wind that cast a shadow as far as the eye could see. When I made it to the optimal venue the smoke helped to accent the sunset, almost as if the fire set to the sky as well.

I traversed the Big Island of Hawaii several times and found myself drawn into a deep forest packed with massive trees all peacefully swaying in the summer breeze. Getting through I had to push away grasses up to my shoulders but looking up I was again amazed at all the sights to behold.
